A Message from Administration
Our entire staff feels very blessed to see all of our students returning to class beginning at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 31st! We are looking forward to seeing many familiar faces as well as welcoming several new students to St. Martin's!
Our MEET THE STAFF morning will be held on the first day of school, AUGUST 31ST from 8:45 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. followed by refreshments in the Learning Commons for parents/guardians from 9:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. We are trying this new format so that parents have an opportunity to meet the classroom staff that will be supporting your child's learning this year. Additional staff will be on hand in the hallways to answer additional questions that you may have. Please be sure to take your fundraising information home with you during this time!
Our enthusiastic School Council, led by parent volunteers, are spearheading a major fundraiser beginning very early in September. This fundraiser will support your child's field trips throughout the year. With your support, all of our students will strongly benefit from the experiential, hands-on curriculum linked learning that field trips provide. We are looking for everyone's support with this major fundraising drive! Our first School Council meeting will take place in the staff room at the school on Monday, September 11th from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. All are welcome to attend!
Our Opening Mass will take place on Thursday, September 28th at 11:15 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. All parents/guardians are welcome to join us.
We have a very exciting year planned for our students! Through a grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, all of our students will be participating in a highly engaging, fine arts focused, educational residency near the end of October when Trickster Theatre comes to St. Martin's to help us learn and celebrate Canada's 150th birthday. Linked directly to the Alberta Program of Studies, our students will be given the opportunity to learn more about our country through experiential learning about, in and through the fine arts.
Jesse Manibusan, a renowned musician from Hawaii, will be doing a performance for our students and staff in September. Our division's 2017 - 2018 theme, "All Are Welcome, All Belong" is a song he both wrote and performs! He is truly an inspiration who shares his experience in using the God given gifts each one of us has been given!
We encourage everyone to check our website often as information will be changed on a regular basis. Under the 'Parents and Students' link, you will find the Calendar. All information is updated regularly to keep our community up to date with all aspects of our community.
Once again, welcome back to our wonderful learning community. Enjoy the remaining days of warm and relaxation! God bless.
My kind regards,
Cathy Cameron, Principal
